FPA WISHES THE CO-OP’S IAIN FERGUSON WELL ON HIS RETIREMENT

The Co-op’s Environment Manager, Iain Ferguson, has recently retired from his post and the FPA sends warm wishes to him for his retirement and for whatever he does next – Iain has become something of a packaging legend in recent years.

Iain has been a strong advocate of compostable lightweight bags promoted by the Co-op to be used as caddy liners in their second life. The FPA would like government to specify compostable caddy liners for food waste collections which will be mandated in England. The inclusion of compostable caddy liners in the plastic packaging tax defies all logic, especially as Defra doesn’t define them as packaging

Executive Director Martin Kersh commented: “Iain has helped judge the FPA’s Sustainability and CSR awards and we hope he will be kind enough to continue to be a judge for our 2022 Awards. Iain will certainly be missed but we’re sure he’ll continue to play a part in UK packaging and to lobby for a UK ban on oxo degradables.”
